Summary of Wildlife Conservation Projects
The Fischer Family Trust is involved in a number of projects to protect highly endangered species in Africa.
The Fischer Family Trust supports a number of projects in the area of wildlife conservation. This includes involvement in the following:
Conservation of the Western Giant Eland in Senegal: The trust is involved in a major ongoing project involving SPEFS in Senegal and Wildlife Assignments pty in South Africa to protect this highly endangered species. This project, carried out in conjunction with the Department of National Parks of Senegal, has involved capturing and relocating a breeding herd of Giant Eland to ensure safe breeding.
DNA-based determination of Roan Antelope sub-species: We have supported the work of Professor Terry Robinson at Stellenbosch University. The aim of this work has been to objectively define the Roan Antelope sub-species, in order to provide a rational basis for management policy of this species in South Africa.
Ground Hornbill conservation at Mabula Game reserve: The trust provides continuing support to reduce the possibility of extinction of this species
Kissima Foundation Giant Sable Antelope conservation: The trust provides support to Professor Wouter van Hoven in relation to his work with the Kissima foundation of Angola, in a project which aims to preserve the antelope which is the national emblem of Angola.
