Wave 3 – an individual support programme

This is a Wave 3 intervention to support children in Years 1 and 2 who are working at 'W' or 1C.  Children receive daily one to one support for 15-20 minutes.  Teachers and Teaching assistants participate in an intensive three-day training that enhances their understanding of the needs of these children and provides a structure for individual support.

Hi-Five – individual/small group support programme
Write Away Together

Write Away Together is about responding to children's independent writing. It involves a trained partner working with an individual or small group twice a week.  Assessment for learning is at the heart of every lesson.

Firm Foundations – a Home/School Programme

Firm Foundations offers a series of 36 activity packs that schools can use to enhance parents’ understanding of children’s learning in the Early Years. The objectives of each activity were aligned to the Foundation Stage Stepping Stones and Early Learning Goals in the area of communication, language and literacy. They are now aligned also to the EYFS curriculum.  Although designed as a home-school programme, it is also a useful resource within any Early Years setting.

FFT Guided Writing

Following the success of the writing element of the FFT ELS this book has been produced as a stand-alone resource. It provides lesson plans and resources for 60 writing sessions. It is a useful resource particularly for NQTs and teachers new to Y1. It is accompanied by a CD of all the resources.

ELS – a group support programme

An intensive Early Literacy Support programme for a group or groups of children needing extra support following their first term in Year 1. This programme has now been withdrawn as it does not link with Letters and Sounds. We recommend that schools use the revised ELS programme published by DCFS in Spring 2008.
