Writing training
The training uses elements of the Write Away Together programme.

It works with a piece of unmarked writing produced in class from any area of the curriculum
Structure of writing session:
- If focuses on high value curricular targets related directly to pupil's writing. Links with APP.
- It aims to help pupils see editing as part of the writing process, rather than a negative experience of criticism and something that is only done by weak writers.
- It provides resources to support planning and independent editing in the class room.
- Training looks at assessment, referring to Assessment focuses and providing a way of identifying progress over a short space of time.

- Direct link to class work.
- Based on Assessment for learning meeting the pupil's immediate needs.
- Provides an audience for pupil's writing.
- Provides an opportunity to help pupil link targets across the curriculum.
- Provides oral feedback indicating success and next steps. The positive approach and clear discussion of next steps enable pupils to engage with the feedback.
- Provides oppotunities to discuss ideas, content, text features, sentence structure, including punctuation for meaning, word choice, etc
- Development of self help strategies
- The last part of the session provides opportunity to help the pupil plan the next piece of writing.

Reading
Reading looks briefly at support for decoding, but the main emphasis is on developing comprehension through discussion of the text,
developing the adult's questioning skills and through Reciprocal Reading strategies of Prediction, Clarifying, Questioning and Summarising.
